Jason J. Sharples, Director of UNSW Bushfire, delivered a presentation on the advanced fire behavior model currently under development by his team. He highlighted how critical parameters such as wind, slope, and fuel type influence fire dynamics and determine fire behavior patterns.
During the presentation, he also outlined ongoing collaborations with several leading institutions and expressed keen interest in establishing future partnerships with the Institute of Forestry (IOF). He further shared that a Nepali student has recently joined their research group to work on forest fire studies relevant to Nepal, marking an encouraging step toward international academic cooperation.
Additionally, he emphasized the potential for initiating a student exchange program with IOF, aimed at equipping Nepali students with advanced knowledge and research experience in fire hazard modeling and related disciplines.
The Dean of IOF commended the work of UNSW Bushfire and welcomed the prospect of collaboration, noting that IOF is home to a dynamic community of young researchers eager to engage in impactful research and international partnerships.
At the presentation, Researchers from Forest Action Nepal; Alina Clark from Austrailian Himalayan Foundation; Vince Cafari, Forest fire Expert; Faculties & Staffs of IoF and Students from School of Forestry and Natural Resource Management IoF TU are Present.
